Professional Development

Professional development (PD) is defined in 704 KAR 3:035 Section (2) as "those experiences which systematically over a sustained period of time, enable educators to acquire and apply knowledge, understanding, skills, and abilities to achieve personal, professional, and organizational goals and to facilitate the learning of students."

Professional development opportunities for the Powell County district and each school shall be incorporated into the school and district improvement plan. The school and district plans will be posted to Powell County School's webpage. The PD plans shall reflect individual needs of schools and staff. Professional development will be aligned with the school and district improvement plans and teacher growth plans. Each school shall plan high quality PD experiences. Each certified employee must have 24 hours yearly of professional development. Certified employees must submit documentation of completed PD hours by May 20, 2011.
